Italian American Democrats Endorse Joe Salerno for U.S. Representative

Salerno campaign momentum builds in New Jersey as Primaries approach

Washington D.C. – February 26, 2023 – The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council today endorsed Joe Salerno as the Democratic nominee in the Primary Election for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House. Salerno’s campaign has drawn notice for its fundraising, all-star campaign team, and now this latest additional endorsement.

“We are proud to endorse Joe Salerno in this Primary,” said Joseph R. Paolino, Jr., Chairman of the Italian American Democrats and a former U.S. Ambassador and former Mayor of Providence. “Joe’s campaign presents a great opportunity to elect an experienced, values-driven, Italian American leader to the U.S. House.”

“Italian American Democrats have been leaders of our community and helped shape South Jersey for generations, so I’m proud to have this endorsement,” Salerno said. “Since my grandmother arrived on Ellis Island from Italy, New Jersey has been home. The values I grew up with here have led me to pursue a career serving the community.”

He and his wife Della live in Lower Township. Their four children were all educated in New Jersey’s public schools. Salerno went on to say “I hope that I’ve instilled in them the same lesson my late father, Guiseppe Salerno, taught me – nothing valuable comes without hard work. I have worked hard to build a life for my family and I want other families in South Jersey to have a stronger, more effective voice in Washington. I am encouraged by the support of organizations like the Italian American Democrats, and I’m ready to work day and night to deliver for the people of this District.”

The winner of the Democratic Primary is likely to face incumbent Jeff Van Drew in the general election, a former Democrat turned far-right Republican. As Salerno said recently, “Jeff’s mission is trying to make Trump happy.  My mission is to deliver better lives for the people of South Jersey .”
