UFCW Feeds Growing Salerno Momentum

Union Joins Backers Looking for Change in NJ-02

Egg Harbor Township, NJ – Sep 3, 2024 – The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 152 has declared their full support for Joe Salerno in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District race. UFCW Local 152 represents more than 8,000 workers in South Jersey, working across grocery and retail stores, health care and manufacturing facilities, cannabis, food processing, and meatpacking industries. Dan Konczyk, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 152, noted that “our members stretch from rural areas to urban centers, but we are united by our desire to ensure working families share in the benefits of a growing economy, have access to affordable healthcare, and are treated with the respect and dignity we’ve earned. Joe will champion the policies and values that are most important to our future. Our membership will come out to help make him the leader South Jersey deserves.”

“The UFCW is made up of the people we rely on daily,” said Salerno. “My opponent has spent a career in politics pretending to speak for everyday people, while he pushes policies that exclude and ignore the working families that make up the heart and soul of our district.” These comments reference that incumbent Jeff Van Drew has the lowest possible rating from the AFL-CIO (0%) on voting for working people. The hard right turn that he made when he switched parties in 2019 has put him in league with Matt Gaetz (R, FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R, GA) as the most aggressive and dedicated Trump followers in Congress.” South Jersey has historically been both red and blue,” noted Salerno, “but it’s never been orange.”
