Earns Major Endorsement from AFTNJ in NJ-02 Congressional Race
The American Federation of Teachers New Jersey (AFTNJ) has enthusiastically declared their support for Democrat Joe Salerno in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. The AFTNJ represents 30,000-plus PreK-12 and higher education faculty and staff throughout the Garden State, seeking programs and policies that benefit education and working families
AFTNJ President Jennifer Higgins stated that “Our endorsement is a vote of trust in Joe to promote legislation that strengthens our schools and our economy. We appreciate his commitment to education, health care, labor and making life better in South Jersey. Our membership is committed, and we will knock on doors and make calls to get out the vote as Election Day approaches.”
Salerno is a product of New Jersey public schools. In addition, his mother worked for the local school system and all his kids attended public schools in New Jersey. “I know first-hand that there are few things more important to the future of South Jersey than a strong education system,” said Salerno. “That’s why I will fight for our schools while Republicans fight against them. They want to weed out kids who don’t look, act or worship like them. That’s why their biggest educational priority is which books to ban.I want to give all our kids a chance to blossom. My priority is providing all of our families access to a 21st-century education in a safe learning environment. ”
