Boost Comes From a Longtime Leader in the Women’s Reproductive Rights and Health Movement
Cape May, New Jersey – September 18, 2024 – Jill Lafer, the former Board Chair of NARAL New York and Planned Parenthood Federation of America, is endorsing Joe Salerno for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District seat. “Joe is a staunch believer and supporter of women’s healthcare rights,” said Lafer. “He will work to defend and restore the rights of women to make their own healthcare decisions in New Jersey and across the country.”
“Jill Lafer has been a women’s health advocate for over 30 years,” noted Salerno. “Her endorsement means a lot. My opponent used to support women’s right to choose, until his new party told him not to. It is among his many hypocrisies that he calls for smaller and less intrusive government while, at the very same time, voting to let the government control what women can and cannot do with their own bodies.” He is referring to one of the many dramatic changes in policy positions that incumbent Jeff Van Drew made when he switched to the Republican Party in 2020.
Women’s healthcare rights is a pivotal issue in this election. Salerno supports restoring the protections of Roe v Wade on a national basis. Recent polls showed the race is in a dead heat as the incumbent’s typical early name recognition advantage has started to fade.
