Cape May Democrats Lock Arms with Salerno in NJ-02 Race
Cape May, New Jersey – Sept 19, 2024 – The Cape May County Democratic Party (CMC Dems) is rallying around local resident Joe Salerno in his bid to take the 2nd Congressional seat in South Jersey. Chairwoman Marie Blistan shared the group’s effusive support for Salerno, saying that the “Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization is proud to endorse Joe Salerno for Congress! He has pledged his loyalty to protecting women making their own healthcare decisions, respecting diversity in our communities, keeping our shore environment safe and vibrant for our businesses, and advocating for our veterans and senior citizens. His lighthouse is Cape May and Congressional District 2 and not any one man. We look forward to his leadership!”
Blistan’s comments reflect the growing concern among independent voters that incumbent Jeff Van Drew’s hard swing to the far-right has put him out of step with the issues and positions that are most important to this historically moderate district. “Jeff Van Drew is like a moth drawn to the orange glow of Trump,” noted Salerno. “While working families are struggling, he’s busy fluttering.”
Salerno’s successful business background and fresh approach put him in stark contrast to the incumbent’s 20+ year career in political office. A recent poll by the Salerno campaign showed the usual incumbent advantage had disappeared going into the final months of the race.
